Acriche 2 – Seoul Semiconductor’s new products

October 26th, 2011

12 Oct 2011,Seoul Semiconductor announced the launching of ‘Acriche 2 representing long life time, low energy consumption and design convenience. Seoul Semiconductor announced 4W, 8W, 12W and 16W module launch which will provide bulb replacement LED solution replacing not only 40W, 60W and 100W incandescent bulb but also MR16 halogen lamp and down light.

The newly introduced ‘Acrich 2’ has been increased more than 90% in power efficiency by improving the power factor up to 97% comparing to previous version of ‘Acrich’ of Seoul Semiconductor, and the THD has become lower than 25% to comply with the requirement of each country including DOE and others. Through cutting edge technology on IC, the lighting manufactures can be directly pluged into the wall without considering any electrical conditions.

General LED bulb are using electrolytic condenser, which is shown below picture, so that the bulb temperature goes up to over 70℃. And it causes short life time, less than 10,000 hours. Analyzing famous brand products, some brand’s power factor ranges to 0.5. Then it will be resulted in 2 times less efficiency even though it has the same 100lm/W efficiency on LED level.

John Bae, saying “Acrich 2 is the pride of nation”, vice president of Seoul Semiconductor, claimed that “high cost, low efficiency and short lifetime which are critical issues of LED bulb can be resolved through Acrich 2. He also exclaimed that “Seoul Semiconductor will diligently keep focusing on technology and product development so that it facilitates customer’s LED product development with full support in various of application. Seoul Semiconductor, as a worldwide brand company, is licensing Acrich to world famous companies and additional licensing deal is under negotiation.” commenting the company mission which is “enrich better life through Acrich”.

All street light with LED energy saving lamps, Shenzhen City, the largest one-time use of LED lighting projects, with actual deeds of this Universiade, “green, technology, environmental protection” concept; and for the first time in Shenzhen City, road lighting project contract energy management using EMC’s investment model, that is energy-efficient LED lighting manufacturers responsible for the investment, installation, contract period, compared to traditional light sources with common energy-saving devices to save electricity, as the return on investment paid to the manufacturer, to saving investment, and energy-consumption purposes.

In compliance with China’s stringent roadway lighting requirements for light efficacy, brightness, luminance, heat dissipation and service lifespan, Kingsun Optoelectronic Co. Ltd., a leading LED lighting company in China, selected Cree XLamp LEDs to illuminate Jihe highway number G15, Nanguang highway number G9411, Longda highway number S318, Yanba highway as well as the Dameisha Tunnel.

LED lighting would be the driver of market growth in 2012

October 9th, 2011

LEDinside forecast that, until 2012, mainland China LED street lamp market will take off. It would be a good news for LED lighting in 2012.

According to Robert Yeh, chairman of Taiwan-based LED packaging house Everlight, the growth of LED lighting is foreseeable and will become the driver of market growth in 2012. Prospects for the LED market are optimistic.

According to the Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA), the top-ten Taiwan-based LED packaging and module firms will record total revenues of NT$70.8 billion (US$2.3 billion) in 2011, a 4% on-year decrease.

Industry sources pointed out that rapid narrowing of the price difference between LED and CCFL BLUs is difficult. The penetration of LED TVs in 2011 is around 40%. Small- and medium-size LED BLUs have been facing decreasing demand due to the shrinking market share of Nokia. LED firms such as Everlight, Unity Opto and Lextar have been suffering disappointing sales of LED BLUs.

Lextar expects LED lighting to account for 40% of total revenues in the second half of 2011 and 50% in 2012.

Everlight’s LED lighting business currently accounts for 8-10% of total revenues but it expects the figure to grow to 15% in 2012. A good chance for LED lights in Japan

October 7th, 2011

LED is a new power energy, which is come with the development of science and technology. LEDs’ power energy is better than nuclear power energy,it’s more safety and environmental.

The March 2011 earthquake in Japan that caused a nuclear crisis has been driving the country to enthusiastically conserve energy, causing demand of LED lighting to grow. Sales of LED light bulbs in Japan have reached around 60% in the third quarter coupled with rapid price decreases of big-brand products. LED light tubes have been entering retail chains and are expected to be the next product to drive market growth. Industry sources indicated they are receiving urgent orders from Japan-based customers and expect demand in the fourth quarter to be quite healthy.

Japan-based customers have been issuing orders to Taiwan-based LED firms such as Lextar and Delta. Lextar’s Japan-based customers currently account for 50% of LED lighting sales while Delta used to focus on OEM light bulb orders from large-size Japan-based brands, and in recent months began receiving OEM orders for LED tube lights.

Energy conservation has become a national sport in Japan after the nuclear disaster in March. Coupled with government policies that encourage businesses and households to conserve energy, the growth of LED light bulb sales in Japan has increased more than two-fold, according to international research institutes.

Industry sources noted the price of LED light bulbs in the first half of 2011 was around JPY2,000 (US$26), however by June, the price of LED light bulbs from first-tier brands dropped to JPY1,600-1,700. South Korea-based firms such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have also been targeting the growing market in Japan. The heated competition is likely to push prices down further.

According to Digitimes Research, Japan’s LED lighting market will experience large growth in 2011-2012 due to the suspension of incandescent light bulb production. Annual growth is expected to exceed 70%, and by 2015, the penetration of LED lighting will reach close to 75% in Japan.

So let’s start to use LED lights, let’s create a clear world.
